Wavy and Red at the W New York
The iconic wavy details with pops of red of W New York in the Financial District greeted me along with its mirrored tiles adding to its the grandeur. The white waves are as nostalgic as the 'white wing or whale' in the Westfield World Trade Center a few blocks away.
Their lobby is also a popular venue for exclusive parties, but alas, my timing was off during this trip and didn't experience it for myself.
True to its W brand well known globally, I was excited to be greeted with its plush bedding and toiletries by Bliss. Take note that there are two entrances for this hotel as one is for the residents and the other for hotel guests.
What's special about this W is its proximity to the 911 memorial site. In fact, it overlooks the hustle and bustle of One World Trade Center. Lucky for me to have a bedroom with that view, which is a popular photo opp.
My overnight stay was not enough to indulge in the well-regarded happy hour at the W's Living Room Bar + Terrace. I can just imagine with its cool vibe, it would be the perfect spot to soak in the new downtown Manhattan landscape and sip a cocktail or two.
Speaking of soaking in, a torrential downpour joined my goodbye party, but it didn't affect my mood a bit. The bellboys on the ground floor helped me find a cab driver who ended up waiting outside, so I was fairly dry from the rain before a red-eye flight back to the city by the bay. Special kudos to them (and my cabbie driver for the no surge pricing)!
Disclaimer: I was provided with a complimentary stay at W New York - Downtown in exchange for an honest review.
