On the Move @ La Bodeguita Del Medio, Palo Alto

To my surprise after reading about La Bodeguita Del Medio a few minutes before writing this, the original establishment is a very popular restaurant in Havana, Cuba. According to wikipedia, Bodeguita is a "famous tourist destination because of the personalities which have patronized it: Salvador Allende, the poet Pablo Neruda, the writer Ernest Hemingway, the artist Josignacio and many others. La Bodeguita lays claim to being the birthplace of the Mojito cocktail, prepared in the bar since its opening in 1942, although this is disputed."
I now must go back to Bodeguita since the night I dined there, I just went with an empty stomach and didn't make my research prior to dining. Instead, I ended up having desserts first with my creamy and fresh Key Lime Pie cocktail. Since dessert comes first, I am reviewing my whole dining experience from bottom up.

Flan with a hint of orange. Perfect way to end a heavy meal.

Dense and too heavy for me. As I've mentioned before, I am not too thrilled with all-chocolate desserts. The rum in this cake just adds a nice touch to a restaurant which boasts a lot of booze.

Key Lime Pie cocktail. Seems to be missing more graham crackers to cut through all that cream. Nonetheless, a good starter cocktail/conversation breaker :)
Spicy sauteed shrimp with piquillo and habanero peppers served on Cuban toasts: Oh men! This was spicy to a different level. In fact, the spiciness distracted me from the fresh camarones.

Blue crab, Old Bay, avocado-cilantro pesto, red pepper sofrito, roasted corn salsa: Hmm, since I have managed to make my own crab cakes, which were out of this world, this was on the average level.

Sautéed shrimp, spicy curry, coconut milk, turmeric, plantains, yuca, greens, hot peppers, white rice: Too much curry. This actually tasted better the next day as leftovers!
Even though I found the savory dishes on the average, I would come back here to try the Mojito and their other seafood and chicken dishes.

I do wonder if their accommodating waiters are originally from Cuba. Hmm..
