The Banana Creme Pie on The Best Thing I Ever Ate

I experienced the typical surprise downpour in New Orleans while walking to Emeril's for a late lunch. Despite being flustered after having witnessed my cellphone slipping out of my hand and balancing an umbrella on my shoulder, I was greeted by the valet who gracefully opened the door for me at Chef Emeril's first ever restaurant. 
 
A 'Good' Creme Pie
I am a huge fan of fruity desserts so I was looking forward to Emeril's banana creme pie that has been featured on the Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate. After scooping out the half inch whip cream on top of the pie, I felt that the sliced fresh bananas were overpowered by the heavier custard filling.

Although I wouldn't describe the banana creme pie as the "best," Emeril's redeemed itself with the finger licking good fried chicken and waffles. It really represents down home Southern cooking. The portions as well were just right balancing both the savory, crispy chicken and sweet waffles.
