On the Move @ Boxing Room, San Francisco
How's the Lent season going? I religiously follow a meatless Holy Week tradition albeit the fact that it is easy for me to go without meat. Being on a seafood diet this week, Boxing Room was my pick for a weekday dinner where I had deep, meaningful conversations with good friends. It was a slow day at the Boxing Room since the Opera house nearby didn't have any show that night. Thus, it was a perfect venue for a long, overdue group chat, which included adult topics, such as how to achieve eternal AND internal happiness.
The Southern inspired menu reminded me so much of the good things that New Orleans had to offer, such as the large, charbroiled oysters that are really hard to find even at oyster places in San Francisco. Boxing Room's oysters are incomparable to NOLA's Drago's or Cochon, but it does the job of satisfying my oyster craving. My shrimp po boy also failed in comparison of the many po boys I've tried. One of my dining buddies, who's not on a meatless Lent diet, complained about her salty pork chops. However, the wait staff was honest to admit that she was not the only one who complained about the saltiness of the pork. Honesty is the best policy!
Hello humungous oysters! I only got one oyster since I had to share but could have gobbled up all 3 easily all by myself. |
I lowered my expectations for the trio of desserts we ordered since the entree was so-so. Surprisingly, the sticky pudding and white chocolate cream hit the right spot. The pudding's texture was not too mushy, while the cream's sweetness didn't give me a sore throat. Both were well balanced in terms of flavor and texture.
One more day 'til I end my meatless diet. Happy Easter!

White chocolate cream and sticky pudding (rightmost top and bottom) are MUSTS! Beignets on the left. |
