A Taste of Tuscany

For my last post on my series of Italian gastronomic (mis)adventures, I take you to the wine country in Tuscany. Nestled in the alluring greenery 5 km outside the walls of San Gimignano fortress, where the one of the best gelatos of the world can be found, Fattoria Poggio Alloro offered wine tasting, vineyard and farm tour, and lunch to remember. With a view and weather so perfect, I was a very happy guest. Special mention to the humongous local cattles that almost did another hairy coo punch on the face because I got too close to them. Thou shall not go near a farm animal ever!

My lunch buddies were weak in sipping their wine so there was a lot left for me. Thus, I doused myself in white and red wines, particularly the well-known, bold-flavored Chianti, to complement my unlimited salad and al dente, tomato sauce pasta. I really wonder what the secret is in authentic, out-of-this-world pastas you can only get in Italy...

The best was saved for last with Fattoria Poggio Alloro's dessert wine paired with a biscotti. Yum!
Can you spot the San Gimignano village?

How do you make buttered bread this good?
My tomato-based pasta. Simple but full of flavor.
Wine tasting at Fattoria Poggio Alloro!
The best was saved for the last course.

Til we meet again! For more vineyard adventures, check out my trip in the Cape Winelands.
