How to Increase Traffic to Your Blog
Spreading the love to all my fellow bloggers through this how-to article to help your blogging business or hobby. Before embarking on any of the endeavors below, ensure that you have implemented the basics of blogging 101:
- scheduling posts
- using relevant hashtags and keywords
- posting regularly
- building social media channels
- utilizing images with high web resolution
Although this post is focused on food blogging, the suggestions can be modified to all types of blogs.
1. Sign up for affiliate and influencer programs: Some of which I am part of are Foodieblogroll and Find Your Influence, respectively. Don't forget to add their html badges so that these sites can redirect to your blog.
2. Know your readers: In the world of food blogging, recipes are almost always the most widely read. However, if you are like me who likes to eat rather than cook, I write more restaurant reviews, food trends and gastronomic travels. Over the years, I have found out that each time I post about my latest boba tea haunts, I get more views and comments than the average. Thus, I go to as many bubble tea shops as I can wherever I am and post about my experience every time.
3. Repurpose your content: Focus on writing posts that can be repurposed or updated months or even years later, such as listicles and annual holidays/events, to increase the lifetime value of your articles. Of course, there are posts that are timely and can't be used again, such as restaurant/product launches or sponsored posts. For example when repurposing content for my favorite restaurants in San Francisco, I add recently opened establishments before blasting it out again on my social channels.
4. Mention the restaurants: Before tweeting or posting on IG, find out if the restaurants/services on your article have a social account. If so, mention them on your posts so that it becomes easy for them to repost your content or message you.
5. Build a backlog: This is really important so that fresh content doesn't dry up. Many of my friends think I'm always traveling even though I'm not. That's because I have a backlog of gastronomic travel experiences that are in draft format. I also pace myself when it comes to writing and publishing blogs to lessen my burnout rate as a professional food blogger. This blog has been running for the past 6 years as one-woman show.
6. Add a title or alt text to images: In order for your images to show up on search engine image results, don't forget to add a title text or alt text tag on your image. This is found under Properties, which is different from adding a caption, and an opportunity to improve SEO.
I'd love to hear about other ways you've increased your blog's traffic. Feel free to share and comment on this post.
