San Francisco's Classic Route: Swan Oyster Depot
"If I died at Swan's counter, I will die a happy man." - Anthony Bourdain
Swan Oyster Depot is the go-to spot for your oyster, Boston clam chowder and sashimi fix. To cut the long wait, order take out instead! I saw a bunch of locals who obviously knew that take out is the way to go.
Swan is very old school- they use a 60s style cash register that looks like it belongs to a museum- so come prepared with cash. As a food blogger and oyster lover, it is such a pity that it has taken me more than 10 years to come visit this historic eatery (I know, I know)! Most importantly, this place is for seafood lovers only. If your dining comrades don't fall under that category, then you're better off at a different restaurant.
Tip: Besides the oysters, the other must try is the sashimi plate.
Enough said.
I like when my oysters are fat and fluffy. |
HUNGRY face. |
The crowd filled with locals and tourists. |
The menu. |
This bread is probably the only thing you can skip. |
But then again, the bread works very well with this crab back. |
Sashimi so perfect melts in your mouth. I want more! The capers added a nice salty touch to this dish. |
Thumbs up on their Boston clam chowder with no bacon. |
Calamari salad oh so fresh. |
