Gathering Safely Through a Buffet Experience

Many of us have missed our loved ones while staying safely at home for the past few months. Now that some cities are starting to open up, gathering with friends and family through a buffet will definitely be exciting. Before you send out that buffet invitation though, don't forget to check your location's rules when gathering in groups. 

Buffets are so convenient, but they are often prone to shortcomings. If you use these simple tips however, then you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to have the best time while also keeping all of your guests fed.

Consider the Movement of the Herd

When food is involved, people often hang around or get in the way. People may converse while at the table and then block the way for other people. This can be frustrating for everyone, but there are ways for you to stop this from happening. One thing that you can do is give your buffet a start point and an endpoint. You also need to make sure that there is a lot of extra space at either end of the table for people to gather and talk. If you are concerned about having too many people at the table at once then consider creating an alternate destination in the room so that people can drift through and ultimately reach the food.


Put Drinks on a Separate Table

Getting a drink can be hard work. This is especially the case if you are having hot drinks, because you have the coffee, and then the packets of sugars and milk jug. If you want to stop this from becoming an issue, then you need to try and serve your drinks on a separate table. When you do this, you give people the chance to refill their glass without having to push all the way through the buffet line. Ideally, you want your drink station to be near the kitchen as all of the jugs of water and even the pots of coffee will be much heavier than the food tray and therefore be more prone to spillages. Plates at the Front

Always make sure that you put the plates at the front and then the cutlery at the end. Do not make people pick up their knives or even their forks at the beginning of the line. If they do then they may find it hard to juggle everything and this is the last thing that you need. It’s also important to have a bin at the start of the buffet table, that way when people go back for more, they can dispose of their old napkins before they pick up their new ones.

Multiple Stacks

It’s best to have several points of access, for everything. Never put one stack of napkins out. Instead, put down three. You also need to make sure that you stagger them as this means that someone can grab one while someone else is busy trying to organize their plate. If you put out a lot of plates and cups then this will also save your guests some work when they do hit the buffet line so make sure that you keep this in mind if you can.

Cleanliness in Mind

Encourage everyone to wash their hands first before starting their buffet experience. You can also help ease people's mind on cleanliness by providing a hand sanitizer before and at the end of the table and ensure that the sanitizers are visible and are well stocked the entire time.
